Stories behind street names in Warrandyte

What’s in a Warrandyte street name? A lot of history is the answer. If you browse a street map of Warrandyte you’ll find names that tell stories about people, places, ownership, culture and past uses. Many aspects of Warrandyte’s past history can be explored this way. The discovery of gold in 1851 shaped the township. The names of many of those involved as well as early settler families were commemorated in street names in the heart of the township in the late 19th century. Naming streets after prominent citizens, places and events then continued well into the next century. Today the street names reveal a significant part of the township’s history.
